02-02-2010 It could be said that 2010 had a bad start as far as legal highs are concerned. Four countries made headlines by banning a wide variety of herbs and substances. And if that wasn’t enough, we received more bad news from the United States, where our friends from Bouncing Bear Botanicals had been raided by 24 FDA officers. They confiscated $700,000 worth of natural and legal products, property and seized funds and bank accounts. Worst of all, they arrested the owner, Jon Sloan.

In Britain and Ireland the focus was mainly on the piperazines (like BZP) and synthetic cannabinoids. The piperazines are now considered a Class C drug. Possession of herbal smoking mixtures laced with synthetic cannabinoids now carry a maximum five-year jail term, and up to fourteen years for distribution.

Russia and Romania have both banned Baby Hawaiian Woodrose, Blue Lotus and Salvia divinorum and 23 synthetic cannabinoids. In Romania a total of 27 substances and nine plants were banned.

We really don't like being the bearers of bad news. Let's hope there will be more positive developments in the months ahead of us.
